Dissection

Everyone remembers the time they were allowed to dissect something in biology. Heart was on the menu today, and it would seem Mr Munro is equally fond of teaching this lesson!

Ballroom Dancing 2014

Last night saw the grand finale of the ballroom lessons attended by many of the year 12 boys over the last 4 months. The annual ballroom ball has become a highlight of the year 12 calendar and the boys were at their very best in order to impress the girls from Queen Anne's as well as the ballroom judges. Shiplake compete for prizes in the waltz, social foxtrot, cha cha cha and the jive against boys from the Oratory school and this friendly rivalry was as evident as always once the music began to play. George Lawley from Orchard house was the first winner of the evening after demonstrating his smooth lines in the waltz. Tom banks also from Orchard picked up the prize for his light footwork in the social foxtrot. Sam Ryder-Smith from Skipwith collected 2 second place certificates for his jive and social foxtrot, whilst Jason Chan from Burr gained second place for his fluid cha cha cha. All the evening missed was a Len Goodman figure shouting '7!' after each dance, but the Reverend 'Brucie' Cousins did his best to offer post-dance analysis to the disheartened boys who did not receive the tap on the shoulder to say they had gone through to the next round. There are many photos in the house gallery which can be seen here or by following the link to the right of this page. Many thanks to Mrs knight for making sure the boys looked fab-u-lous on the night.

Getting in to role

The year 11 drama students are preparing for an upcoming GCSE piece which involves acting as homeless people. To get in to the role, Miss Unwin and Mrs Pearson asked the boys to live as the homeless do for a night by sleeping outdoors in the stable yard last night. The boys slept on cardboard mattresses, had a brazier for heat and were allowed no home comforts at all. The boys had to suffer interruptions from members of staff offering loose change, the temptation of a warm boarding house and people revving car engines in the early hours. I'm sure they have learnt a lot from the experience and they did not seem a bit put off when their housemaster insisted on blinding them with the camera flash.

Year 8 Social

The new Skipwith boys who are currently in Lower School went to a social with the Abbey School. The photo shows they were quite excited by it.

A Night at the National

A number of Skipwith boys visited the National Theatre with the Drama department on Tuesday to see a thought provoking play, 'Blurred Lines'. It was a good night and a pleasure to spend the evening with the actors in the house.

We think we have it bad...

We may be suffering with wind, rain and floods but it could be worse. Albert (our American boarder) has just had this photo sent from home in Connecticut.
